We want to hear from you about London’s heritage!
The Architectural Conservancy of Ontario and the Heritage London Foundation are partnering to promote the Ontario Heritage Awards Program.
London’s architecture has captured the soul of rural Ontario and the splendor of our city at the turn of the century. Dedicated individuals in London have preserved its heritage for as long as its stunning architecture has existed.
It is our privilege to work with these individuals, and it is time to recognize their efforts. These people put in tangible efforts that keep our history alive for future generations through awareness and direct restoration.
How to Nominate
The Heritage Awards nominations come in two categories to promote different types of work in our historical space.
Category 1: Education, Awareness, and Advocacy
Nominations in this category include individuals who have devoted time and effort beyond the call of duty. These individuals engage the community with the heritage, building a relationship between London’s community and its past.
These individuals have devoted time, energy, and enthusiasm to the preservation of London’s built heritage as volunteers. This could take the form of attending meetings, writing letters, speaking at City Hall, and so on. Founders or builders of local heritage organizations are frequently nominated.
You may know an individual or group who has brought vision, passion and creativity to built heritage conservation by means of a project or programme that they have started or developed to increase awareness for heritage and architectural preservation.
Individuals or groups who have improved awareness for local built heritage through scholarship, research, or study are welcome.
We also encourage the nomination of groups or individuals employed in the field of Heritage who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
Category 2: The Preservation of Built Heritage
The second award category will go to an individual or family who has graciously donated their energy into restoring or maintaining a heritage property for Ontario to enjoy.
We welcome those who have adapted a heritage building for creative use as well, such as shelters, meeting halls, exhibition spaces, or museums.
These heritage properties might still be under construction or even adapted for reuse while retaining the original character of the architecture, but that does not disqualify anyone from nominations.
