Doors Open London at Grosvenor Lodge

Celebrating its 18th year, Doors Open London is one of the longest-running community celebrations in Ontario. This year, Grosvenor Lodge is one of 39 local venues to welcome visitors of all ages, September 15th from 10.00am – 3.00pm.

The theme of the free weekend event is Untold Stories of the Forest City.

Built by Samuel Peters Jr. in 1853, Grosvenor Lodge has plenty of stories to share. Get a taste of what life was like for Samuel and his wife Anna by taking a tour with one of our historical interpreters. Can you find their initials entwined in a love knot in the front door’s stained-glass, or spot his initials encased in stone high up on the front gables?

More than a century of visitors have crossed Grosvenor Lodge’s wide-planked pine floors and admired the hand-painted ceilings, elegant staircase, and striking fireplace surrounds. What tales could they tell?  Wander outdoors and peek inside John Peters’ summerhouse office. This small, unassuming structure had fallen into disrepair and we’re excited to unveil this newly-refurbished building to the public.

Take some time to enjoy family-friendly activities on our beautiful grounds, and don’t forget to check out our flower garden and the stately Carriage House. Once a mainstay of any prosperous London home, this is one of the few that remains.

Imagine relaxing on the elegant porch when Grosvenor Lodge was still a country estate, located outside the city boundaries.

Today, Grosvenor Lodge is practically in the heart of London. No longer a family home, this tranquil and historic oasis has reinvented itself as a popular venue for meetings, retreats, weddings, bridal and baby showers, as well as celebrations of life.

Now owned and operated by the Heritage London Foundation, it’s still very much part of the London community. And thanks to events like Doors Open London, the story of Grosvenor Lodge continues to unfold.
